Volunteer of the Year

2003-2004

Eric Mannall of Dyce Boys Club

Eric Mannall has been involved with Dyce Boys Club almost since the day it was founded way back in 1980. He was encouraged to help his brother the late Eddie Mannall who founded the club along with Alan King.

Over the years Eric has ran Dyce football teams at various age groups and this year he is in charge of the 14’s age group which finished in runners up position in the league. As well as running this team Eric has been involved in regional affairs sitting on the Regional Executive Committee. Not content with that Eric has along with Abby MacDonald looked after both the 14’s Regional Development Squad and the Aberdeen and District Juvenile FA 14’s select which took part in the Jack Wood Tournament in Ayr. Eric has been involved with this tournament for the best part of ten years now.

Over the years Eric has been heavily involved with the affairs of the Aberdeen and District Juvenile Football Association having served on it’s Executive Committee for a number of years. In recognition to his service he was elected as a life member to that body in 2001.

But it is his unstinting service to Dyce Boys Club that Eric has been nominated for this award he is always there to support and help Dyce teams and committees. This was illustrated most clearly when the Dyce 15’s reached the semi final of the Scottish Cup Eric was on hand to ensure the game against The Celtic Boys Club went smoothly and that the hospitality offered by Dyce BC was to it’s usual high standards. Unfortunately for Eric although Dyce won the semi final comfortably the 15’s fell at the final hurdle going under 2-1 to Fairmuir BC in the final. Eric as you would expect was there to cheer the boys on and more importantly to console the team and officials after their defeat.

Team of the Year

2003-2004

ALBION B.C. 16's

Lindsay Simpson Manager of Albion BC 16's receiving Dunfermline Building Society Team of the Year Award from Angus McConnell President of the SYFA

The Northern Region Team of the Year for 2004 is undoubtedly Albion BC 16’s. They put last year’s disappointment of losing in the Scottish Cup Final behind them and set about winning through to this year’s final and eventually triumphed over Royston BC from Edinburgh with a narrow 1-0 victory.

Along the way they won the league title with a 100% league record, one of only two teams in the Aberdeen and District Juvenile FA leagues to do so, along with Deveronvale in the 13’s B League. The only game they lost was the President’s Cup Final which they lost to Banchory BC after a nail biting penalty shoot out at Pittodrie a week before they took the field at the Excelsior Stadium in Airdrie for the Scottish Cup Final. They have also won through to the final of the Middlefield BC Trophy and hopes are high that they will be able to beat Dyce BC and make it an amazing hat trick of trophies.

Manager Lindsay Simpson is justly proud of his boys’ achievements. “They were so down after losing the Scottish Cup last year but they showed such resilient spirit to win through to final again this year and actually win the trophy. It was just fantastic team spirit that won through in the end.”

The Albion Squad are  Stuart McKenzie, Neil Simpson, Garry Wood, Kyle McKendrick, Jamie Ralph, Martin Charlesworth, Lee Raper, Simon Mathers, Martin Donald, Tom Milroy, Steven Craib, Ryan Thomson, Dean Elrick, Dean Lawrie, Jonathon Stalker, Ian Vigurs, Alexander Gray.
