4 v 4 Coaching Seminar Ellon
Over forty coaches attended a SFA In Service coaching Seminar covering the concept of 4v4 Development football for Under 9's . Coaches Jim Crawford, Gavin Levey, and Mark Slater demonstrated the benefits of small sided games for young developing players. Jim Crawford demonstrated some drills that the players could be encouraged to try out. The players must be encouraged to practice on their own. At this age it should be all about allowing the players to try things out and learn themselves about mistakes. Coaches must be understanding it is all too easy to be negative and put players off. The 4 v 4 game is an attempt to replicate "street football" where players play for the joy of the game. Coaches should encourage the players to practice on their own. To this end Jim has prepared Homework Sheets requiring the player to practice moves that players such Ronaldo, Figo and Beckham use. There are also speed drills all to be done with the ball at the players feet. All that the player requires are a ball and five cones or markers. Coaches can record their times and in that way chart their players' improvement. The Aberdeen and District Juvenile FA are to sponsor Four v Four Festivals where clubs will be invited to have teams take part. Clubs wishing to take part should contact association Secretary Raymond Kelly.
