ALBION TRIUMPH IN SCOTTISH CUP

Albion BC 16’s maintained Aberdeen and District Juvenile Associations proud record of winning a Scottish Cup every year when they lifted the Scottish Youth FA Dunfermline Building Society Challenge Cup when they beat Royston BC from Edinburgh 1-0 at Airdrie’s Excelsior Stadium.

This was the first goal that the Edinburgh league leaders had conceded in the whole of the competition and it was Albion’s Ian Vigurs who hit the all-important winner twenty-four minutes into the second half.

Royston failed to clear an Albion corner properly and the ball fell to Vigurs just inside the box and he rifled a low drive past the Royston keeper. That goal was enough to have captain Jamie Ralph step up and receive the trophy from Dunfermline Building Society’s Chief Executive Graeme Dalziel.

A proud Albion manager Lindsay Simpson was full of praise for his squad’s achievement “ Every one of the squad played their part. We always knew it was going to be difficult against Royston but in the end our experience from last year’s final just give our boys the edge. It would be unfair to single out any player for special praise. The humid condition’s during the game made it very hot for the players but they all worked their socks off”

The full Albion squad is as follows

Stuart McKenzie, Neil Simpson, Garry Wood, Kyle McKendrick, Jamie Ralph, Martin Charlesworth, Lee Raper, Simon Mathers, Martin Donald, Tom Milroy, Steven Craib, Ryan Thomson, Dean Elrick, Dean Lawrie, Jonathon Stalker, Ian Vigurs, Alexander Gray.

OTHER FINALS

The Hutchisonvale Club from Edinburgh won three  SYFA Dunfermline Building Society Challenge Cup Finals from Edinburgh.

In the 13’s final they narrowly beat Fairmuir from Dundee 2-1. Their 14’s were just too strong for Stenhouemuir's Syngenta Colts and ran out easy victors 8-0. Their 21’s found Paisley’s St Peter’s Juveniles a harder nut to crack. The tie was still goal less after extra time and Hutchison won 4-2 on penalties.

Calderwood Blue Star the conquerors of East End Villa just edged Galston Boys Club 2-1 in the 17's Cup and Edina Hibs Colts required extra time to beat cup holders Bonnyton Thistle 3-2 in the 19's Final.

THERE WAS MORE THAN CONSOLATION FOR THE FAIRMUIR CLUB WHEN THEIR 15'S LIFTED THE SCOTTISH CUP AFTER BEATING DYCE BC 2-1. DYCE HAD INITIALLY TAKEN THE LEAD THROUGH LUKE BARBOUR ONLY FOR FAIRMUIR TO EQUALISE BEFORE HALFTIME. FAIRMUIR HIT THE WINNI8NG GOAL TEN MINUTES INTO THE SECOND HALF.
