Plucky Portlethen go down to Hutchison Vale Portlethen Sports Club 14's narrowly lost out in the final of the Scottish Youth FA Dunfermline Building Society Challenge Cup when they lost 2-1 to holders Hutchison Vale. Portlethen completely dominated the first half and it was no surprise when they took the lead in 21 minutes. Craig Will outpaced the Hutchison defence and volleyed the ball home. Ryan Stewart then went close with a header following a Morrison cross. Josh Connon almost doubled Portlethen's lead when he crashed the ball off the bar from fully thirty yards. At no time in the first half was Portlethen's defence under any serious pressure. Disaster however struck Portlethen early in the second half. With only two minutes on the a cross from the left was not cleared and the Hutchison forward had the simplest of tasks to net from the six yard box. Hutchison now had their tails up and Portlethen began to lose their shape. Once again Portlethen failed to deal with an attack down the left and and from the resultant cross Hutchison headed home the ultimate winning goal. Try as they might Portlethen just could not mount any sustained pressure and could not enjoy the dominance they had in the first half. The nearest they came to levelling the game was when Michael McKinnon hit the bar with a rasping shot eight minutes from time.
