Volunteer of the Year

2004-05

Elaine Bremner receives this year’s nomination for the Northern Regional Volunteer of the Year for her dedicated service to Colony Park football club. Not only does Elaine look after the secretarial duties of the Inverurie club’s under 14 side alongside her husband Alex who undertakes coaching duties but Elaine looks after all the secretarial matters for the Colony Park Community Club. This involves helping out all eleven teams in the Colony Park fold as well as the numerous seven a side teams the Inverurie Club operates.

The Aberdeen and District Juvenile FA match secretary Carol Baxter has nothing but praise for the efficient way Elaine handles all matters relating to Colony Park. Carol knows that any query will be handled as a matter of urgency.

Because of the hard dedicated work of Elaine the youth of Inverurie and district can enjoy the game of football.

Club of the Year

2004-05

Westdyke Boys Club from Westhill on the outskirts of Aberdeen have been nominated as Regional Team of the year.

The club, which runs teams in the Aberdeen and District Juvenile FA, has been very generous benefactors to the MacMillan Cancer Relief Charity. Over the years the club have through various fund raising activities donated in excess of £ 5,000 to the MacMillan Charity.  This total was aided by the donation of £ 1000 following their successful Fund Raising Dinner last November when Denis Law was the guest speaker.

Not content with raising money for that charity the club has also made a generous contribution to Radio North Sound’s Cash for Kids campaign.

Whilst the main thrust of the club is in improving the footballing skills of its members it is also instilling in them, through their charitable efforts, the value of helping others in the community that are less fortunate than themselves. There are valuable lessons to be learnt in both Team Spirit and Community Spirit.
