WINNERS 2006

Albion in Seventh Heaven

Albion Boys Club 16’s became the seventh team from the Northern Region to lift a Scottish Cup .

A Josh Winton strike mid way through the first half was more than enough to ensure that an Aberdeen and district Juvenile team took a national trophy north for the seventh year running. That is one trophy in each of the years that the SYFA has been in existence.

Josh Winton ‘s overall performance saw him grab the Dunfermline Building Society Man of the Match Award.

Albion secretary Brian Winton was a very proud father indeed. For Coaches John Hill and Steve Argo it was a case of lightning striking twice as they had previously guided Albion’s Under 14’s to National honours in 2001.

Albion 14’s fall to Blue Brazil

Albion 14’s fought back from being two goals down to take their Scottish Cup Final into extra time .

With Albion in total dominance in the latter stages of normal time everybody assumed that they would go to lift the trophy but it was Blue Barzil that proved the stronger in extra time and they went on to take the cup by a comfortable 6-3 margin.

Albion Manager Colin Mather is convinced this experience will stand his charges in good stead for next season .

Goldenhill sting Wasps

Middlefield Wasps 19’s were the second Aberdeen team to lose out in extra time in a Scottish Cup Final at Airdrie’s Excelsior Stadium.

In the ninety minutes Wasps matched Goldenhill shot for shot and chance for chance. They were unfortunate to go behind when goalie Taylor was unable to hold a shot and Hill fired home.

Wasps fought back to level the game when Jamie Smith finished off the best move of the game.

Middlefield went a goal down after only two minutes of extra time and never quite recovered. Eventually going under 3-1

There will be three teams from the ranks of the Aberdeen and District Juvenile FA competing in the Scottish Youth FA Dunfermline Building Society Challenge Cup Festival of Finals to be held over the weekend of 6th and 7th of May 2006 at the Excelsior Stadium Airdrie.

Leading the way will be Albion BC 14’s . They will face either Livingstone FC BC or Blue Brazil BC at 11.00 am on Saturday 6th of May . Blue Brazil narrowly beat local side Dyce BC in a quarterfinal replay

Immediately after that final it will be the turn of Albion BC 16’s who face Maddiston United from Falkirk .

On the Sunday it will be the turn of Middlefield Wasps who will face up to Glasgow side Goldenhill BC in the Blue Riband Final in the 19’s age group.

Both Albion BC and Middlefield Wasps have a good track record in Scottish Cup Finals. Albion BC win the 14’s Cup in 2001 and the 16’s Cup in 2004. Middlefield won the 15’s and 16 Cups in consecutive years 2002 and 2003

This will be the first such occasion that three teams from the Granite City have made it through to the finals. The best to date has been two finalists. Hopes are therefore high that the teams will improve upon the record of having one Cup Winning Team in each year since the foundation of the Scottish Youth FA
